Microsoft AntiSpyware will be free
Sometimes it pays not to be the first kid on your block to post a link to a
rumor. Earlier today I saw a number of posts quoting a
NeoWin
“exclusive” that intimated that Microsoft was changing its announced policy
regarding Microsoft AntiSpyware and that it would only be available as part of a
subscription-based product like OneCare (currently in beta). Not true, says
Steve Dodson:
“As we have been saying since day one, Microsoft Windows AntiSpyware will be
available at no charge to licensed users of Windows. Users who validate their
Windows install through WGA will be allowed to download the AntiSpyware beta, as
well as the full standalone version of AntiSpyware when it releases to the web.
For users who want more services including AntiVirus, computer backup, and
AntiSpyware we will be offering Windows OneCare live. Windows OneCare Live is
currently in beta, but when it releases to the web it will be available to users
with a cost.”
I’m a lot more inclined to take Steve’s word for it.
